Getting Here

Follow I-95 South to Richmond, VA. Take I-64 East toward Norfolk/Virginia Beach, VA. Take 64 or 664 to Chesapeake, VA. Then take Exit 291B for Highway 168 South. Go south on 168, Chesapeake Expressway*. Once in North Carolina, 168 turns into US 158 East. Follow this road to The Outer Banks.
* Please note: Chesapeake Expressway is a toll-road, which costs $2 each way. You may also take I-664 South from I-64 East. Take I-64 East to Hampton, VA, and pick up I-664 South through Monitor Merrimac Tunnel. Take exit 15B to get back on I-64 East. Then take Exit 291B for Highway 168 South. Continue on 168 South, which turns into US 158. Follow this road to The Outer Banks.

From the Northeast
You may consider Rt. 13 down the Delmarva Peninsula across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel ($12 toll each way). Connect with I-64 East. Then take Exit 291-B for Highway 168 South. Continue on 168 South, which turns into US 158 East. Follow this road to the Outer Banks.

From the West
Take US Hwy 64 East from Rocky Mount, NC. Follow US 64 East through Williamston and Plymouth, NC. From Plymouth, NC, keep going east to Roanoke Island and The Outer Banks.

From the South
Coming from South Carolina, take I-95 to Wilson, NC. Take US 264 East through Greenville and Washington, NC. From Washington, take State Route 30 to Plymouth, NC, and follow the directions above via US 64 East to The Outer Banks.

Leash law requires that leash does not exceed ten (10) feet in length. From the hours of 9:00 am and 6:00 pm each day from May 15th to September 15th each year, No dogs shall be allowed on town beaches, except those aiding a handicap person.

Leash law requires leash does not exceed six (6) feet in length between the hours of 10:00 am and 6:00 pm from Friday, before Memorial Day until the day after Labor Day. At all other times the leash may be extended, but must be retractable to 12 ft. Well trained dogs may be unleashed under close supervision of owner, not to exceed thirty (30) feet in distance between owner and dog.
